About the race
The Sean Hughes "Character Counts" Memorial 5K and Fun Run is a community memorial event held on November 8, 2026 at Lower Merion High School, Hap Arnold Field, in Ardmore, PA. It is the fourth annual edition and also marks the fifth anniversary of the principal's death and the dedication of Phase One of the Memorial Garden and Plaza on the high school campus. Phase One will be unveiled immediately following the event.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Walk
Registration details: open from August 31, 2026 to October 31, 2026. Fees listed for the events are $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 1 mile. Registered participants before November 1 will receive a t-shirt while supplies last. The race will be professionally timed by Bryn Mawr Racing Co. and official results will be published online.
Additional information: previous editions attracted more than 500 participants and raised approximately $20,000. Amenities listed include water stops on the loop, awards for overall and age groups, and complimentary refreshments. Parking is available behind the school building. Participants are encouraged to create personal or team fundraising pages; a prize will be awarded to the highest fundraiser as of race day start time.
