Event Overview
The Seahawk Sun Run is a running event organized by the North Carolina Azalea Festival in partnership with UNCW Homecoming. It takes place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, on the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). The event is part of the university's Homecoming weekend.
Distances and Format
The event offers two main in-person distances: a timed 5K and an untimed 1 Mile. Both events are open to participants who wish to either walk or run. Virtual options are also available for the 5K distance.
Event Location
The start and finish line is located at the UNCW Amphitheater at 615 Hamilton Drive in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Participant Perks
Participants who register by January 29, 2026, receive a race shirt. Those registering for the "Participating with Dog" category receive a custom pet bandana, while supplies last. Virtual participants have different deadlines for shirt delivery.
Beneficiaries
Proceeds from the event support several organizations:
- 100% of proceeds from UNCW alumni registrations go to The North Carolina Azalea Fellowship in Volunteerism and Civic Engagement at UNCW.
- 100% of proceeds from individual racer registrations go to the North Carolina Azalea Festival.
- 50% of proceeds from "Run with Your Dog" registrations go to the local non-profit paws4people, which trains and places Assistance Dogs.
Parking and Registration
