Mixed Terrain Island Run

The Scurry Around Cramond Island is a 5 mile sunset running event that takes place on a tidal route in Edinburgh. The course offers participants the opportunity to run away from the mainland and out to sea, featuring views across the River Forth toward the city and the Forth Bridges.

Course Details

The route is undulating and consists of mixed terrain. Participants begin near the boardwalk beach club cafe before completing a short off-road loop in the fields behind the Roman Fort and Cramond Kirk. The path then leads toward the island crossing. The distance from the Promenade to the island is approximately one mile.

Once on Cramond Island, the course includes a short hill climb and a loop around the beach at the back of the island. Runners return to the mainland using the same route to reach the finish line. The surface underfoot varies significantly and includes:

  • Tarmac
  • Grass
  • Single track paths
  • Uneven tarmac
  • Sandy beach
  • Rocky surfaces

The route is clearly marked and supported by marshals. Due to the coastal nature of the event, puddles are expected on the causeway depending on weather conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
