Event Overview
The Scurry Around Cramond Island 5 Mile Run is a multi-terrain sunset running event located in Edinburgh. The course measures 5 miles (approximately 8 kilometers) and features a route that takes participants across the tidal causeway to Cramond Island. The event offers views across the River Forth toward Edinburgh and the Forth Bridges.
Course Details
The route is an undulating mixed-terrain course that is clearly marked and marshaled. The run begins by the Boardwalk Beach Club Cafe and includes a scenic off-road loop in the field behind the Roman Fort and Cramond Kirk. Runners head toward the island crossing, which involves a one-mile stretch out to sea. Once on the island, participants navigate a short hill climb and circumnavigate the beach before returning along the same route to the finish line.
The terrain consists of a variety of surfaces, including:
- Tarmac and uneven tarmac
- Grass and single-track paths
- Sandy beach and rocky surfaces
Due to the coastal nature of the event, puddles are expected on the causeway depending on weather conditions. Because of the tidal nature of the course, participants are expected to maintain a pace that allows them to return safely across the causeway before the tide comes in.
Participant Information
This event is open to individuals aged 16 and over. Participation is limited to 425 places, and registration is conducted online in advance. For safety reasons, the use of headphones is prohibited, with the exception of bone-conducting earphones. Dogs, pushchairs, and running buggies are not permitted on the course.
Finishers will receive a race memento, along with water, a banana, a snack bar, and a post-race drink. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the first male and female runners in the over-40 category. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
