Savannah Urban Ultra 50k
The Savannah Urban Ultra is a self-supported 50-kilometer run through Savannah, Georgia. The course begins and ends at the Waving Girl statue on Riverfront Savannah and changes from year to year to show different parts of the city.
Entry to the event is free but attendance is limited to 25 runners. Prospective participants must provide a short answer explaining why they want to run a free 50K through Savannah; the first twenty-five responses received are accepted. The organizer will select and share notable responses on the organizer's blog.
The route passes through urban and occasionally busy sections of the city. Runners are advised to remain attentive, run on sidewalks when available, and run facing traffic where applicable. The course passes by grocery and convenience stores, but runners should not rely solely on those services and are encouraged to carry sufficient fluids and fuel for the full distance.
The event often attracts groups; participants commonly find a pace group and stay together while moving through the city. Finishers receive a custom-made tile art item featuring a memorable Savannah token. Participants are also encouraged to take and share photographs from the course.
