About the Event

The Flying Fox event in Northampton is a flexible, timed running challenge. It is organized by Saturn Too and Circuit Running Events. The event takes place around the Northampton Washlands on a route comprising well-maintained paths and trails.

Distances and Format

This is a 7-hour time challenge event. Participants choose their own distance within that time frame. The course consists of laps. A full lap is approximately 5.25 miles or 8.5km, though this distance is subject to change. The minimum required distance is 3km for juniors and 5km for adults to become an official finisher. Standard race distances are achieved by completing a certain number of laps:

  • 2.5 laps for a half marathon.
  • 5 laps for a marathon.
  • Just under 6 laps for a 50km.
  • 6 laps or more for an ultra marathon.

The event offers specific entry categories for set distances, including 3km, 5km, 10km, Half Marathon, Marathon, 50km, and Ultra Marathon.

Event Details

All finishers who complete at least 3km receive a fox-themed medal. Participants who run a half-marathon distance or more also receive a corresponding distance pin to attach to their medal ribbon. A goody bag is provided to all finishers, with a vegan option available.

An aid station at the start/finish area offers drinks, crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and other snacks, with vegan choices included. Toilets are available at the venue, but there are no changing facilities or showers. Limited on-site parking is available, with additional paid parking nearby.

Race numbers are collected on the day at registration. Final instructions are sent by email in the week before the event. There is an unsupervised bag drop area, so valuables should not be left.

Entry is available for various distances, each with a minimum age requirement:

  • 5km: 12 years and over.
  • 10km: 16 years and over.
  • Half Marathon and Time Challenge: 17 years and over.
