Event Format

The Smurf Run is a seven-hour time challenge event. Runners have full control over the distance they complete, from a 3km minimum. The event operates on a loop system. A standard lap is 4.37 miles (approximately 7 km), but this distance may change to 3.28 miles depending on course conditions. Within each lap, there are designated 3km and 5km turn points for younger runners to comply with UK Athletics distance rules. Participants can run as many laps as they wish, subject to age restrictions.

  • 3km: Open.
  • 5km: Open to entrants aged 12 and over.
  • 10km: Open to entrants aged 16 and over.
  • Half Marathon: Open to entrants aged 17 and over.
  • Marathon: Open to entrants aged 18 and over.
  • 50km: Open to entrants aged 20 and over.
  • Ultra Marathon: Open to entrants aged 18 and over.
  • Time Challenge: Open to entrants aged 18 and over.

Course Details

The course runs along a stretch of the River Thames. It is fully signed, requiring no navigation experience. The surface is mixed: approximately 60% is on a well-made path or tarmac, with the remainder on grass and light trail that can become muddy. Road shoes are suitable for use year-round, though trail shoes can be worn for extra grip.

Participant Information

All finishers who complete at least 3km receive a themed medal. Additional distance pins are awarded for completing a half marathon or longer; available pins include Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, 50km, and Ultra. All finishers receive a goody bag, with both standard and vegan options available. An aid and drinks table is located at the start/finish of each lap, offering a selection of savoury, sweet, fruit, cheese, and vegan items.

The event venue, the Wraysbury Skiff and Punting Club in Egham, provides toilets and changing facilities. An unstaffed bag drop is available near the start/finish area, but participants are responsible for their belongings. A large pay-on-exit car park is located at Runnymede Pleasure Grounds.
