Sass Strut 5k
The Sass Strut 5k is an annual community event located in Hermitage, Tennessee, designed to increase awareness about strokes and raise funds for rehabilitation services in Middle Tennessee. The event supports the Brain Injury and Stroke Charity of Tennessee, a non-profit organization that provides funding for survivors who cannot afford treatment and offers caregiver respite programs.
Participants can choose between the following course options:
- 5k Fun Run: A full 5 kilometer distance on a paved trail.
- Survivor Strut: A 2000 foot total distance with markers every 100 feet for 1000 feet.
The event is held at Long Hunter State Park and follows a scenic route through wooded areas. The course begins at the Couchville Lake dock and utilizes the Couchville Lake Trail, which circles the water. To complete the full 5k distance, the path includes a section that wraps back through the starting point for a short out-and-back segment.
The Sass Strut is open to participants of various abilities, including walkers, runners, and those using mobility devices. The shorter Survivor Strut option specifically allows survivors with limited mobility to track their progress along a measured path. All courses are situated on paved surfaces to accommodate different movement styles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
