Sand to Serengeti
Sand to Serengeti is a trail race at Green Lakes State Park scheduled for May 16, 2027. The main course is roughly 10 miles and follows trails around the park, starting at the sandy beach, winding around Round Lake, rising toward an area called the Serengeti, circling the upper section, and descending back to the beach. A shorter 5 mile option follows the beach and a loop around Round Lake before returning to the beach.

- 10 miles roughly following the full trail route around the park
- 5 miles loop around Round Lake and back to the beach
Course and services are described as well marked with views of beach, lakes, and fields. One aid station is located at the intersection of mile 2 and mile 6.5 and provides water only; participants are advised to carry additional hydration or nutrition as needed. Park bathrooms will be open and parking is available in both beach parking lots. Packet pick up is listed as TBD at Fleet Feet in East Syracuse.
Swag and awards include a finisher medal for 10 mile participants and a sports towel for 5 mile participants. Overall awards are given for 1st through 3rd place and age group awards are given to 1st through 5th by male and female categories. Fleet Feet Syracuse donated gift cards for several awards and raffle prizes. The event lists NAMI Syracuse as its charity partner.
Race transfers between distances are allowed until March 31, 2027. No deferrals are allowed after March 15, 2027 and refunds are not offered for the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
