Sand to Serengeti
The Sand to Serengeti race is a trail event at Green Lakes State Park. The course runs through the trails of the park.
The race offers two distances:
- 10 miles: The route starts at the sandy beach, winds around Round Lake, goes up to the area known as the Serengeti, loops around the top, and descends back to the beach.
- 3 miles: This route starts at the sandy beach, winds around Round Lake, and returns to the beach.
All participants will receive race day photos. For the 10-mile distance, finishers get a medal. For the 3-mile distance, participants can choose a sports towel, buff, lanyard, or drawstring bag.
There is one aid station on the 10-mile course, at the intersection of mile 2 and 6.5, which provides water only. Runners are advised to carry their own hydration and nutrition. Park bathrooms will be open, and parking is available in the lots near the beach.
The event has cash awards for the top three male and female finishers in the 10-mile race. There is also a raffle for a gift card. A local pizza shop offers a post-race slice of pizza or a draft beer with a ticket from the race bib. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
