Course and logistics
Courses run through coastal redwoods, stream canyons, meadows, pine and oak forests, and chaparral-covered ridges. The Half Marathon, 30K, Marathon, and 50K cross the San Lorenzo River multiple times. Distances were measured with a Rolatape surveyor's measuring wheel. GPX files are available for each distance.
Elevation gain by event: 10K 800', Half Marathon 2,175', 30K 3,000', Marathon 4,350', 50K 5,175'. Course surface is predominantly single-track (about 58-62%) with the remainder on dirt road. The course is marked with ribbon about every 200 yards and color coded by distance; polka-dot flagging marks turns. Aid stations are fully stocked every 6-7 miles with fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte drink. Runners are asked to carry their own fluid container - a cupless policy is in effect. Headphones are allowed only on dirt road sections. Time limits: all events 9 hours; the Marathon and 50K have intermediate cut-offs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
