San Juan Island Half Marathon
The San Juan Island Half is a point-to-point Half Marathon on San Juan Island. The course starts at South Beach inside San Juan Island National Historic Park and finishes at Jackson Beach just south of Friday Harbor. Runners pass views of nearby islands, the Olympic Mountains, and the Salish Sea.
The route has about 900 feet of total elevation gain with three main climbs located roughly between miles 0 to 1.6, 3 to 5.3, and 9 to 10.8. Aid stations appear every 2–3 miles and are stocked with water, Tailwind Electrolytes, and GU gels. This is a cupless event; participants should bring a handheld bottle or a hydration pack.
Logistics include free shuttles between the San Juan County Courthouse/downtown Friday Harbor and the start area, and free gear check with participant-provided bags and finish-line pickup. Parking is not allowed at the start line; quick drop-off is available above the start area.
Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the race at a local location, and bibs are also available on race morning at the start. Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers by gun time and to age-group winners in five-year increments; awards must be picked up at the race. A separate kids race of about 0.4 mile starts and finishes at Jackson Beach and includes a finisher medal.
Charity partners for the event include The Whale Museum, Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor, and Island Haven Animal Sanctuary. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
