Samson Stomp
Samson Stomp is held at the Milwaukee County Zoo on Sunday, January 17, 2027, and includes multiple running and walking events on public walkways throughout the Zoo. The event honors Samson, the Zoo’s silverback gorilla (1950-1981). Money raised supports the animals in the Zoo’s population.
Event offerings include:
- 5K Competitive Run, officially timed
- 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk
- 1-Mile Romp for Children
Entry fees include a long-sleeved T-shirt, Zoo admission, a beverage, a snack, and parking. The 5K race is officially timed; results will be made publicly available in person and online after the race. All races occur on public walkways inside the Zoo. For safety, strollers, in-line skates, and similar devices are not permitted.
The Zoo will hold the race in rainy, snowy, or cold conditions but reserves the right to cancel for severe weather or other dangerous, unforeseen race conditions; no refunds will be given in that case. After the events, attendees may remain at the Zoo for the rest of the day.
During the event there is a drop-off location in the Zoo’s U.S. Bank Gathering Place for recycling handheld electronics such as cell phones, tablets, smart watches, earbuds, digital cameras, and wearable fitness trackers. Recycling supports conservation efforts related to gorilla habitat. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
