Salute to Steve Prefontaine 5K and Mile
The Salute to Steve Prefontaine 5K and Mile takes place on September 26, 2026 at the J.R. Alford Greenway in Tallahassee, Florida (2500 Pedrick Rd.). The event is organized by Gulf Winds Track Club and uses much of the new single-track mountain bike trails.
Distances offered:
- 1 Mile (Prefontaine Mile)
- 5K (Prefontaine 5K)
The 5K course begins with a downhill section and enters single-track about 0.25 miles into the race. Runners follow nearly two miles of twisty single-track through long-leaf pines and natural areas. The final mile includes two separate steep 400 m hills and finishes near the top of a large hill.
The 1 Mile event follows a loop that also includes a portion of single-track trail.
A Steve Prefontaine dress-alike contest is part of the post-race awards and party. Custom Prefontaine Bib Boards will be awarded to top three age group finishers. Registration fees listed are $15 for the Mile and $20 for the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
