Saltmarsh Half Marathon
The Saltmarsh Half Marathon returns in 2026, offering a point-to-point route along the Saltmarsh Coast trail pathway. The course follows the River Crouch, starting at South Woodham Ferrers and finishing at Riverside Park in Burnham-on-Crouch. This event is open to both runners and walkers aged 17 and over, with a course cut-off time of 4.5 hours.
The terrain is primarily off-road, consisting of coastal paths, wooded trails, and short road sections. While the route is mostly flat, the distance may measure approximately 13.6 miles due to adjustments in landowner access. The course is fully marked, and participants can access a .gpx file once the final route is finalized.
This is a cupless event aimed at reducing plastic waste. Participants must bring their own flasks, bladders, or reusable cups. Fully stocked aid stations are located at the 5-mile and 9-mile marks, providing sweet and savory snacks, fruit, nuts, squash, and flat cola.
Organizers provide several logistical services:
- A bag drop bus transports personal belongings from the start to the finish line.
- A pre-race shuttle service runs from the finish at Riverside Park to the start at Marsh Farm (subject to booking and availability).
- Free parking is available at the start at Marsh Farm Country Park.
Finishers receive a bespoke medal, a t-shirt, and a goody bag. The event is a UKA Affiliated Member with a race permit issued by the Trail Running Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
