About the race
The Rye Derby YMCA event takes place in April at Rye YMCA, 21 Locust Avenue, Rye, NY 10580. It combines timed races with a family fun run and community activities.

- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk
The 5 Mile race requires participants to be at least 14 years old. Registrants receive a Derby T-shirt while supplies last. An awards ceremony follows the races, and complimentary food and family activities are available on site.
Prize details are published for overall and age group winners. The 5 Mile race awards cash prizes to the top three overall finishers and medals to age group finishers. The 5K awards overall top finishers and medals for age groups. The 1 Mile fun run provides ribbons to all finishers. Team awards include fastest team, most creative attire, and most participants, with a minimum of five team members required to qualify.
Course notes state the 5 Mile and 5K courses are mostly flat with a few inclines and include three water stations. The 1 Mile course is mostly flat with a steep incline at the midpoint. Streets are not closed to traffic; volunteers and police provide on-course direction. Bib pickup is available in the days before the event and on race day.
