5K Run/Walk with Gusto!
This annual community 5K run and walk takes place in Lees Summit, Missouri, beginning and ending at Gusto Coffee Shop and following a course through the Longview Lake area in Jackson County. The event combines road-running and recreational walking in a community setting.
All proceeds benefit three local ministries: City Union Mission, Rended Hearts Ministry (rescuing victims of human trafficking), and God’s Bucket Brigade (serving the homeless). The event is held in honor of a former owner of Gusto Coffee Shop.
Registration opens March 5 and closes May 9. The registration fee is $32.00. Race jerseys are guaranteed for registrations received by May 3; shirts will not be printed after that date.
The participant mix typically includes competitive runners as well as families, children on bikes, and walkers with dogs and strollers. Awards are given for first, second, and third place male and female finishers, plus the first male and female youth (12 and under). A post-race community breakfast is provided and includes pancakes, eggs and sausage, fresh fruit, and drinks. Hiland Dairy will provide ice cream, ice cream bars, milk, and yogurt during the post-race celebration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
