Run/Walk for NM Libraries
The Run/Walk for NM Libraries is a community-focused sporting event held during National Library Week to support library services across the state. This non-competitive event emphasizes participation over performance, with no official timing or winners recorded. Participants are encouraged to walk or run at their own pace.
The event offers a variety of ways to participate. There are organized local meeting points in several New Mexico communities, including:
- 5K Run/Walk
In-person gatherings are scheduled at specific locations such as Downtown Orchard Park in Farmington, the Gallinas River Park gate in Las Vegas, the Project Playground/Rec Center in Carlsbad, and the historical marker on Highway 48 in Capitan. Participants who are unable to attend these specific sites may also register to participate independently at any location.
The primary objective of the event is to raise funds for the New Mexico Library Foundation. Total proceeds from registrations and donations are allocated to support libraries and librarians through various initiatives, including STEM grants, development programs, and professional development grants. Registered participants also receive a commemorative t-shirt provided by event sponsors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
