Running With The Devil
Running With The Devil is a multi-distance running event held in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The event takes place on a paved course that features rolling terrain and a winding road through Lovell Canyon. Located approximately 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, the course starts at an elevation of about 4,500 feet.
Participants pass through high desert vegetation including Joshua Trees, Pinion-Juniper, Mountain Rose, and Sagebrush. While the area typically experiences temperatures approximately 10 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley, it remains an extreme heat event. Daytime temperatures often reach between 95 and 100 degrees, while overnight lows are around 75 degrees. The event provides on-course provisions to assist runners with the heat.
The schedule is designed to allow participants to compete in multiple distances on the same day. There are two separate sessions for the shorter distances, allowing for combinations such as a morning half marathon followed by a noon 10K. Awards for the noon 5K and 10K races are limited to overall top finishers and grand masters, while age group awards for those distances are reserved for the morning sessions.
