Running Wild for the Zoo 5K

Running Wild for the Zoo is a community 5K run and walk held at 115 Lake Shore Dr., Michigan City, IN. Registration opens March 19, 2026 and closes June 13, 2026. The standard entry fee is $25.00; registrants may choose a "no shirt" option to save $5 on the fee.

The event includes on-course and postrace provisions such as water, fruit and hot dogs. Free parking is available. Each participant receives a pass for free admission into the zoo on the day of the event. A beer garden is available for participants aged 21 and over.

Awards are presented for multiple finishing categories. Trophies are given to the top five overall male and female finishers and to the top masters male and female finishers, defined as the first finishers over 40 who are not among the top five overall. Medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Age groups are 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 and over. There is also a Clydesdale Athena division with awards for the top three men and top three women; men over 210 pounds and women over 170 pounds may elect to compete in this division.
