Event Overview
The Running Scared 5K - Pumpkin Challenge takes place at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in Fort Myers. This event features a unique format where participants incorporate strength and endurance into their run. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Florida.
The Pumpkin Challenge
The event includes a specialized 5K course known as the Pumpkin Challenge. Participants have the option to carry a pumpkin throughout the race. Different pumpkins are positioned at various intervals along the route. Smaller pumpkins are located near the beginning and require being carried for a longer distance, while larger pumpkins appear later in the course, resulting in a shorter carrying distance. Participants choose their preferred balance of weight and distance, and they are allowed to keep their pumpkin after the event.
