Running Scared 5K - Fort Myers
The Running Scared 5K Pumpkin Challenge takes place on October 3, 2026, at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. The event is a 5 kilometer road race with a seasonal twist: participants carry a pumpkin from points along the course. Pumpkins are placed at various locations so runners may choose a smaller pumpkin near the start to carry a longer distance or a larger pumpkin later for a shorter carry. Each participant keeps the pumpkin they carry.
Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics Florida. Registered participants receive a Running Scared t-shirt and a finisher’s medal. Awards are given for Overall Male and Female 1st through 3rd, and for age groups determined by net chip time. Age group categories are 0–10, 11–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+, with the top three male and female finishers in each category recognized.
Packet pickup is available at Fleet Feet Fort Myers and on race morning prior to the start. Registration opens February 8, 2026 and closes October 3, 2026. The standard registration fee is $35.00.
