14th Annual Running of the Elves
The Running of the Elves is an annual community event held at the Central Wildcat Stadium in Central, Louisiana. The event features two primary distances through the city:
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
The course provides a scenic route through the local area, and participants are encouraged to wear holiday themed costumes. A costume contest will take place alongside the athletic components of the day. The races are professionally chip timed by Pelican Timing. Registration is available for individuals as well as groups of five or more through a discounted rate.
All participants receive a finisher's medal upon completing the course. Individuals who register by November 12, 2026, are guaranteed a t-shirt. Competitive awards are presented for the top overall male and female runners in both the 1 Mile and 5K events, with additional awards for the first and second place male and female finishers in several age groups ranging from 1-14 to over 70.
The event atmosphere includes several post-race activities held at the stadium. Attendees have access to pancakes and coffee, and the venue hosts pictures with Santa Claus. Additional features include a fire truck display with Sparky the Dog, various kid activities, and giveaways. Early packet pickup is available on the Friday prior to the race at the Central Community Athletics Gym, with race day pickup also located at the stadium site.
