5K Celebration - Girls on the Run South Louisiana
The Girls on the Run South Louisiana 5K Celebration is a season-closing, noncompetitive 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event emphasizes completion and confidence; program participants who finish the course receive a commemorative medal.
The fall 5K takes place across council locations, including Baton Rouge at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, 5525 Reitz Ave., and Lafayette at Moncus Park, 2913 Johnston St. Registration pricing for non-program participants is listed by date: early bird $25 (September 14 to 27), general online $30 (September 28 to November 12), and day-of in-person $40. Program participants and coaches are pre-registered through the council.
The course is 5K (3.1 miles) and is described as accessible for people with disabilities; participants may walk, run, push, or roll at their own pace. The council provides designated parking; Baton Rouge parking is available on site and Lafayette offers free parking plus a shuttle. Safety measures include required race bibs, assignment of a running buddy for each participant, course monitoring, head counts, and a council safety plan with trained staff and volunteers. Liability waivers are part of registration.
Event features include an Inspiration Village, water stations, inspirational bandanas, a happy hair station, council merchandise for sale, and volunteer roles such as set-up and tear down, registration, water stations, cheer stations, and running buddies. Volunteers appointed by the council undergo a background check. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
