Run Wild 5K at the North Carolina Zoo
The Run Wild event is a 5K held on North Carolina Zoo property in Asheboro, at Solar Pointe and 4401 Zoo Parkway. The route follows paved visitor pathways and passes through the Zoo's Africa and North America continents, beginning at the North America Connector road and finishing at the Solar Pointe picnic area. The course features rolling hills typical of the North Carolina foothills.
All registration fees are directed to efforts to protect native salamander populations. Each registration includes a Zoo ticket, an event tee, and a commemorative sticker. Registration opens on 2/1/27 and is limited to 650 participants; a youth discount of $5 for participants 17 and under is applied automatically during registration. The listed registration fee is $45.00.
The event is open to all ages and to walkers as well as runners. Participants must be able to complete the course within 90 minutes because the course closes at that time. Spectators can watch and cheer at the start and finish near Solar Pointe just outside the Zoo gates, but they will not be permitted onto course sections inside the Zoo during the race. After the event concludes, there will be refreshments and festivities at Solar Pointe for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
