Event Details

The Run Wild 5K is a running and walking event held at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. The event's registration was limited to 650 participants and is currently sold out.

Course & Location

The race takes place on North Carolina Zoo property. The 5 km course uses paved visitor pathways and features rolling hills typical of the region's foothills. The route begins at the North America Connector road, continues through the Africa and North America sections of the zoo, and finishes at the Solar Pointe picnic area. Participants may hear animal sounds along the course, such as lions or red wolves.

The start and finish lines are near Solar Pointe, just outside the zoo gates, allowing spectators to watch. The zoo opens to all guests after the event concludes.

Participant Information

Registration includes a zoo ticket, an event t-shirt, and a commemorative sticker. The event is open to participants of all ages, both runners and walkers. There is a 90-minute time limit to complete the course. All registration fees from the event go directly towards protecting native salamander populations.
