Run the Tan
Run the Tan is a community running event held on Melbourne’s Tan Track around the Botanic Gardens. The course is a single loop of 3.827 km and is used for a range of race formats during the event day.
The program includes multiple categories: a public fun run open to the general public, elite athlete races for top male and female competitors, celebrity appearances, emergency services team competitions, and interschool races. Teams from workplaces, run clubs, schools and friend groups often take part on the same course.
The event raises funds and awareness for local mental health charities and is organised by Run for Mental Health Ltd. Organisers note the event is part of a broader Run for Mental Health campaign and provide information about fundraising opportunities. The event also highlights running for wellbeing with a cited statistic that short daily runs can reduce risk of major depression.
Permanent digital clocks at The Tan display official top 10 fastest times for men, women and Para categories. Run Club activity associated with the event meets weekly at Pillars of Wisdom on the Tan Track; sessions are free to join, open to all, and supported by qualified running coaches. Run the Tan is typically held in late April each year and the 2027 edition is scheduled for Sunday 18 April 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
