Run the Tan
Run the Tan is a running event held on the Tan Track around the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. The 2027 edition is scheduled for Sunday 18 April 2027. The event raises funds and awareness for local mental health charities and presents a mix of competitive and community-focused activities.
The program includes a public fun run that is open to the public with limited places, a main elite race for top male and female athletes, dedicated categories featuring celebrities, emergency services teams, schools in a "Battle of the Schools" format, and para athlete competition. The event records official times on the Tan Track and maintains a Hall of Fame and top 10 lists for men's, women's and para performances, which are displayed on digital clocks at the venue.
Organisers promote regular community running activity linked to the event through a Run Club that meets at the Tan Track; participation is free and supported by running coaches. Run the Tan also highlights the relationship between running and mental health, citing that 1 in 5 Australians will experience mental illness in a year and that 15 minutes of daily running can reduce the risk of major depression by 26 percent. Public spectator access is noted as free. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
