About the race
Run the Tan is an annual running event held on The Tan Track in Melbourne. The event for 2027 is scheduled for Sunday 18 April and features a single-lap format around the Botanic Gardens track, described by organisers as one lap with one hill. The program includes multiple categories: a public fun run open to everyone, elite male and female races, celebrity entries, emergency services teams, and a schools competition titled Battle of the Schools. The event raises funds and awareness for local mental health charities; organisers state that participants can fundraise to support mental health programs.
Official timing features are part of the event experience: digital clocks at The Tan display official top-10 lists for men's, women's and Para times, and a Hall of Fame records fastest laps on the course. Recent recorded fastest lap times include listed top performances for male, female and Para categories. A community Run Club meets weekly at The Tan on Saturday mornings for group runs supported by qualified coaches. Run the Tan is organised by Run for Mental Health Ltd in conjunction with partners and sponsors and provides free spectator access to the event site.
