Run The Tan
Run The Tan is a community running event held on The Tan Track around the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. The event raises funds and awareness for local mental health charities and features a range of entry categories that bring together athletes and community groups.
Event categories include a public fun run that is open to everyone, a main elite athletes race for top male and female competitors, a celebrities category, emergency services group races, and interschool competition titled Battle of the Schools. Participants may record an official time on The Tan Track; organisers maintain official top times and display digital clocks with leading men's, women's and Para results.
A related Run Club meets weekly on Saturdays around The Tan. The club is free to join, is supported by qualified running coaches, and includes a social gathering after the run. The event and associated activities are organised to support fundraising for mental health organisations and to acknowledge the role of running in wellbeing and community connection.
Organisers describe Run The Tan as a local fixture on Melbourne's running calendar that uses the Tan Track as its central course and focuses on both competitive and community participation while directing funds and visibility to local mental health causes.
