Mike's Run the Chop Challenge
Mike's Run the Chop Challenge is a Fourth of July running event in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. The event has operated for 25 years and has raised over $140,000 for island youth programs, including Martha's Vineyard Big Brothers Big Sisters, the MV Youth Running Club, and Rotary of Martha's Vineyard. The main races begin at the Tisbury School in Vineyard Haven, about four blocks from the boat dock.
Distances offered:
- 5.25 miles traditional loop around West Chop
- 3.5 miles new loop option
- Kids' Fun Run untimed for ages 8 and under with parents
The two main races use a mass chip start and a chip timed finish; runners with strollers are asked to line up at the back. Dogs are not allowed in the main races; the Kids' Fun Run allows parents, strollers, and pets. Registration opens May 5 and closes July 3. Bib and race shirt pickup is available on July 3 in Vineyard Haven and on race morning at the Tisbury School. In-person registration capacity is limited and race shirts are guaranteed only to the first 800 registrations.
Parking at the school is not allowed and overall parking is very limited. Awards will be presented on site to top overall male and female finishers and to the top three male and female finishers in standard age divisions for both main events. Results are posted on Webscorer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
