Ruck4HIT
Ruck4HIT is a team-based ruck relay that crosses Cape Cod, covering more than 200 miles through all 15 towns in a relay format completed in roughly 36 hours. Teams complete legs of about 2 to 4 miles while carrying a weighted rucksack to symbolize burdens carried by service members and veterans.
Divisions and distances:
- Jethro Division: full 200+ miles, includes both team challenges.
- Jones Division: full 200+ miles, may use time releases.
- HELOS Division: 100+ miles, completes one team challenge.
Across divisions participants over 160 pounds carry a 20-pound rucksack and those under 160 pounds carry a 10-pound rucksack. RUCKS are required; certain carry systems such as plate carriers and weight vests are restricted in some divisions. Teams operate in a relay format, use passenger vans (up to 15 seats), must provide two drivers per van, and may use up to three support runners. Fundraising minimums apply and vary by division and team size.
The course is divided into 71 legs, mapped with an app, and includes roads, paths, beach sections, and stairs. Two team challenges are part of the route: a climb of the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown and a litter carry near USCG Station Chatham. Periodic weight checks and staffed exchanges are used throughout the course; the event requires a substantial volunteer presence.
Training sessions for participants are offered free and occur on weekdays and Saturdays at local meeting points. Recommended preparation includes starting ruck runs about 13 weeks before the event, progressing weight gradually, and meeting basic fitness benchmarks such as 50 squats with event weight, a 4 mile run at a 10 minute per mile pace, and a 2 minute plank with an empty rucksack.
Ruck4HIT raises awareness and funds for Heroes In Transition and supports programs for service members, veterans, and military families. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
