Run St Magnus
Run St Magnus takes place on 05 July 2026 and is presented by the Birsay Community Association as the eighth St. Magnus Marathon. The marathon route begins at Kirkwall’s St. Magnus Cathedral and follows the route associated with the journey to Christ’s Kirk in Birsay, finishing at Birsay Community Hall on Orkney’s west mainland.
Options at the event include the full marathon, a three person relay and a 5K Fun Run that follows a circular route around Birsay Hall with sign ups on the day. The marathon course is Scottish Athletics certified and includes seven staffed water stations placed at intervals along the route. Finishers receive a medal and a goody bag and a prize giving is held in Birsay Hall after the event.
Entries for the marathon and relay are via Entry Central only and there are no entries on the day. Transfers are allowed until 21 June 2026. A race time limit of six hours applies and course support will be withdrawn after that time unless changed for weather reasons.
Safety information notes that the route is mostly on public roads open to traffic, will be signposted and marshals will be present. Maps will be available at Registration and at the Town Hall. Runners must not use personal music players and must provide emergency contact details on their race number. Changing and toilet facilities are available at start and finish and finish bags will be transported to Birsay Hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
