Event overview
The Run Northumberland Half Marathon takes place on 15 March 2026 in Matfen, Newcastle upon Tyne (NE20 0RJ). The race distance is Half-Marathon on a traffic-free road course with an undulating profile. The route starts around the village of Matfen, includes a small 5 km loop through the start/finish area and then follows a two-lap section based on the 10-mile course, finishing on the village by-pass near the start area. Minimum entry age is 17. Chip timing is provided by Timing4Sport.
Practical information
Entries are limited to 300. Affiliated entries are £25.00 and unaffiliated entries are £27.00; the entries closing date is 23 November 2026. Race headquarters and registration are at Matfen Village Hall, which also provides bag drop and refreshments. Toilets are near the start/finish area and changing facilities are available. Parking is on the village by-pass opposite Matfen Hall. There are water stations approximately every 3 miles and distance markers in miles at every mile. Results are based on gun time with chip times available for personal use. Entries on the day may be possible but are not guaranteed. The event is held under UK Athletics rules.
Prizes and categories
All finishers receive a finisher medal. Overall prizes include trophies and vouchers for the top three men and women (£50, £30, £20 vouchers respectively for 1st-3rd). Veteran age-group prizes are awarded in five-year bands (women 35+; men 40+) with a minimum of five finishers required per age band to qualify. Team prizes apply to UKA-affiliated clubs where three scorers finish wearing official club vests. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
