Community Event in Jericho
Run Jericho is an established running event held in the Jericho area of Oxford. Organised by the St Barnabas Primary School PTA and a group of volunteers, the event serves as a fundraiser to support educational projects and school facilities. Since its inception in 2011, the race has contributed to various improvements including sports equipment, library books, and outdoor learning spaces such as a Forest School.
The event offers several distances to accommodate different participants:
- 10k
- 5k
- 1 mile (children's race)
The courses consist of loops through the local streets of Jericho and surrounding areas, including Port Meadow. The race is known for community involvement, with local residents frequently supporting runners along the route.
As an ecologically conscious event managed by an Eco school, the organisers focus on waste reduction and environmental care. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and travel to the venue by foot, bicycle, or public transport. No goodie bags are distributed to further minimize waste. Following the conclusion of the races, volunteers ensure all areas, particularly natural spaces like Port Meadow, are cleared of any litter.
