Scare-A-Thon Marathon and 10K
The event takes place entirely within the secure perimeter of Grafton Correctional Institution in Grafton, Ohio. It offers two official race distances:
- 10K
- Full Marathon (26.2 miles)
Participants run alongside residents who are part of the Running2bwell training program. Proceeds will support Running2bwell; $5,000 worth of shoes were recently purchased for GCI residents and the event aims to raise a comparable amount.
Start and finish are located by a stage where live music will be provided by inmate musical groups. Registered runners receive a custom t-shirt, though sizes are not guaranteed.
Entrants must be 21 years or older and may not be currently on an inmate visitation pass. Entries are limited to the first 30 registrants. There is a strict dress code for female participants: shirts must have sleeves, shorts must reach mid-thigh, and tight or form-fitting apparel is not allowed; additional rules may apply.
For security and logistics, participants may bring only water bottles, hats, and watches. Phones, headphones, and similar items are not permitted. Photo identification is required; car keys must be locked in a provided locker and everyone is subject to search. Registration opens July 14, 2026 and closes September 27, 2026. Registration fees listed are $50 for the 10K and $75 for the marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
