Scare-A-Thon Marathon and 10K
This event is held entirely within the secure perimeter of Grafton Correctional Institution in Grafton, Ohio. Two race distances are offered:
- 10K
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
The course is described as a loop inside the facility with a start and finish by a stage where live music will be performed by inmate groups. Guest runners will run alongside residents who participate in the Running2bwell training program, and all proceeds will support that program. Organizers report a recent purchase of $6,000 worth of shoes for residents and an intent to raise a similar amount at the event.
Runners receive a custom t-shirt, with sizes not guaranteed. Female guest runners must follow a strict dress code: shirts with sleeves, shorts to mid-thigh, and no tight or form-fitting apparel. Guests must be 21 or older and cannot be on an inmate visitation pass. Entries are limited to the first 30 registrants.
For security and logistics, participants must clear security on arrival, bring photo identification, and lock car keys at entry. Permitted items are limited to water bottles, hats, and watches; phones, headphones, and other items are not allowed. Attendees and belongings are subject to search.
