Run for the Rescues 5K
Run for the Rescues 5K takes place on November 14, 2026 in Dahlonega at Cottrell Elementary School, 220 Pinetree Way. The event is organized by Friends of Lumpkin County Shelter Animals and supports Lumpkin County Animal Services and the construction of a new Lumpkin County Animal Shelter.
The event offers two options: an in person 5K Run/Walk and a Virtual 5K. Registration opens August 13, 2026. The in person registration fee is $35 and closes October 13, 2026. The virtual entry fee is $30 and virtual registration closes on November 14, 2026. T-shirts are included for registrants of the in person race only.
Onsite features for the in person event include parking, water for humans and dogs, and cleanup bags. Well behaved, leashed dogs are encouraged. Medals will be presented for overall winners and for age group categories. The in person event includes an on site adoption event and a raffle with a dog and cat lovers gift basket. The in person event takes place regardless of weather.
Proceeds and donations support life saving medical treatments, spay and neuter services, daily care including food and shelter for animals awaiting placement, community outreach and education programs, and medical equipment for a new surgical suite at the shelter under construction.
