Volunteer Community Event in Pittsburgh
The Run for the Rec is an annual community event held in the McKnight Village neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The course takes participants through local streets and serves as a fundraiser for the community-owned park. Proceeds support long-term improvements such as playground replacement, alongside smaller environmental projects like tree planting.
The event features several different ways to participate:
- 5k running division
- 5k rucking division
- Untimed walk
The event is open to families and strollers. For those taking part in the competitive divisions, 53 medals are distributed across various age groups and categories. Registration remains open until shortly before the event begins on race day, with early bib and shirt pickup available on the preceding Friday.
Following the physical activities, the McKnight Village Rec hosts a post-race gathering. This includes refreshments, live music, raffles, and games specifically for children. Parking is available for free within the recreation area, with volunteers providing directions for arriving participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
