Run for the Pies
The Run for the Pies is an established running event held in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. Originally founded in 1979 as the Lakewood Twilight Run, the event serves as a fundraiser to support local running trails, summer camp scholarships, and high school track and cross country programs in Duval County. The race is hosted at James Weldon Johnson Park on West Monroe Street.
The event structure includes two distinct road races:
- Championship 5K, which features an elite field and prize money.
- Open 5K, which includes overall and age-group awards for participants.
All finishers receive a custom designed Run for the Pies medal. Every participant's goodie packet includes Moon Pies. Additionally, specific performance benchmarks are recognized; participants who finish the race within certain time limits - under 22:00 for males and under 28:00 for females - receive custom designed running hats and extra Moon Pies.
A block party is held in James Weldon Johnson Park following the conclusion of the races. The event also maintains a fundraising component where participants can contribute to local athletic and community programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
