Event Overview
The Run for the House is a community sports event organized to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston. The event takes place at Sam Houston Park and features a mixture of competitive and non-competitive distances. All proceeds from the event support families with children receiving medical care for serious illnesses or injuries at Texas Medical Center member institutions.
The available distances include:
- 5K (3.1 Miles): A USATF-certified competitive course available for timed runners, walkers, and rollers.
- 1 Mile: A non-competitive untimed course for participants of all ages.
Participant Information
Registered participants receive a race shirt, a finisher medal, and a swag bag containing items from event sponsors. For children under the age of 12 participating in the 1 Mile event, accompaniment by a registered adult or guardian is required. Special registration categories are available for school programs and for current or former families of the charity.
Post-Race Activities
Following the run, an after-party is held at Sam Houston Park. The gathering includes food and beverages for participants to refuel. Activities at the park include opportunities for photos with Santa, craft stations, and various games. An awards ceremony is conducted during the event to recognize specific achievements. The event is supported by matching funds from the Trafigura Foundation, which matches donations up to a set limit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
