About the race
Run for the Fallen at Merced College is a remembrance event with running races and a Field of Honor on the campus main lawn near M Street and Yosemite Avenue. The event includes a short ceremony to honor local fallen service members and is presented by the Merced Sunrise Rotary Club.
Distances offered:
- 400 m kids race, with a finisher medal for each child
- 5K Run/Walk, free entry, no t-shirt included
- 10K Run, free entry, no t-shirt included
All running participants receive chip timing and are eligible for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals in male and female age groups. Age groups are: 10 & under, 11-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Commemorative t-shirts will be sold on race day for $25 while supplies last, with proceeds donated to the Merced Field of Honor.
The local event is part of the larger Run for the Fallen effort, which began with a 2008 cross-country run and expanded in 2018 into a multi-state tribute that covers thousands of miles and honors service members lost since the start of the War on Terror.
