Event Overview
The Hornitos Run is the 48th annual Indian Gulch Hornitos Run, hosted by the Merced Running Club. The event takes place in the foothills near the historic town of Hornitos and is a road race through California range land.
Distances
The event offers three out-and-back distances along Hornitos Road:
- 2-mile Race
- 5-mile Race
- 10-mile Race
All courses start from the town of Hornitos and go toward Indian Gulch.
Event Details
The start and finish line is at Hornitos Central Park (also referred to as Hornitos Park). Aid stations are located at the turnarounds for the 5-mile and 10-mile distances, while the 2-mile turnaround is marked on the road. The event is described as plastic-cup-less, meaning participants are asked to bring their own cup or drinking bottle for water at aid stations.
Registration and Fees
Pre-registration for any distance costs $40 and includes all fees. Same-day registration is available for $50 per person, with payment accepted only by cash or check. Registration closes two days before the event. Packet pickup is held on race day morning at Hornitos Park near the start line.
Participant Information
A t-shirt is included with pre-registration and is available first-come, first-served for same-day registrants. The event uses professional chipped timing. Top finishers in each 10-year age group receive a unique award. The first male and female finishers in all age divisions receive a "Golden Horseshoe" award. Registration includes a continental breakfast. Walkers are welcome on the 2-mile and 5-mile courses. The event proceeds benefit the Mariposa High School Track Team.
