Run for Roots: Heard It Through the Grapevine
Highway City Community Development (HCCD) organizes the 2nd Annual Run for Roots, Heard It Through the Grapevine edition in West Fresno. The event is set at Kearney Park and highlights the area’s agricultural history and local culture. Participants include runners, walkers, families, and costumed raisin characters. The 5k Run/Walk welcomes dogs.

The in person program includes a 5k Run/Walk and a 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Registration fees listed are $30 for each in person event and $50 for the virtual 3.1 mile option. Registration for the in person events opened on 2026-03-23 and closed on 2026-04-01. Registration for the virtual run opened on 2026-03-23 and closed on 2027-03-21.
HCCD frames the run as part of its community development work. Since 1998 the organization has focused on resident leadership and services in West Fresno and the West of 99 / Central Unified area. In 2025 HCCD served more than 10,000 community members, supported nearly 1,000 families during crisis, and expanded access to food assistance, care navigation, education, housing advocacy, health resources, arts and culture, and community development.
