Heard It Through the Grapevine

The second annual Run for Roots event takes place in Fresno, California. This edition, themed "Heard It Through the Grapevine," celebrates West Fresno’s community, local culture, and agricultural history. The event is hosted by Highway City Community Development (HCCD) and is set against the vineyards of Kearney Park.

Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes following the event theme, with a specific focus on raisins or "Raisin Eaters," a nod to Fresno’s first professional baseball team from 1906. The event serves as a fundraiser to support local community services, including food assistance, healthcare access, and youth empowerment programs. The organizers will also collect food donations for a local pantry during packet pickup and on the morning of the event.

Available distances include:

  • 5k Run/Walk
  • Virtual Run

All participants receive a race shirt (guaranteed for those registered by March 15), a finisher's medal, a swag bag, and breakfast items. Awards are provided for age group winners and overall winners, alongside a special prize for the best costume depicting the "Heard it Through the Grapevine" theme. The event is open to families and is dog friendly, provided pets remain on a leash. The race takes place rain or shine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
