Run for Roots: Heard It Through the Grapevine
Run for Roots is the 2nd Annual 5K event presented by Highway City Community Development (HCCD) in Fresno. The event is set near the vineyards of Kearney Park and uses the theme "Heard It Through the Grapevine" to acknowledge the area’s agricultural history and local heritage. Participants are encouraged to dress as raisins or "Raisin Eaters," a reference to Fresno’s early baseball history.
The event offers these options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Virtual Run
All participants receive event swag including a race shirt guaranteed for those registered before March 15, a finishers medal, breakfast items, and a swag bag. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at Teague Community Resource Center, 4718 N Polk Ave, and on race morning near the park start in the Sports Complex area Section 4. The race will occur rain or shine.
Awards include age group prizes, overall winner trophies, and a Best Costume Award that reflects the theme around community, agriculture, and Fresno history. Friendly dogs on leash are welcome. The event also collects food pantry donations at packet pickup and on race morning. HCCD describes the race as part of its ongoing community work that has expanded food assistance, care navigation, education, housing advocacy, health resources, and arts and culture programs.
