12th Annual Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k
The Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k is an annual event held in Durham, North Carolina, on the American Tobacco Trail. This event serves to celebrate Ostomy Awareness Day and supports the United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA). Proceeds from the race contribute to support, education, and advocacy for individuals living with an ostomy or continent diversion.
Participants can choose from the following event categories:
- 5k (Individual/Open)
- 5k (Ostomate)
- 50 m dash for children aged 2 to 8
The race encourages awareness and empathy by providing an optional ostomy pouch in the registration bags. Non-ostomate runners are invited to wear the pouch during their run to better understand the experiences of those living with ostomies. Participants have the option to organize or join race groups and teams to compete alongside friends, family, or colleagues.
Awards are presented to the top male and female overall finishers and the top finishers in various age categories. Special prizes are also designated for the top male and female ostomate participants. The event features a fundraising program where individuals who raise a specific amount may receive a refund on their registration fee. Additionally, a referral program is available for participants who invite others to register. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
