4th Annual Run for Reading 5K, Stone Mountain, GA
TREAD Academy hosts the 4th Annual Run for Reading 5K on May 16, 2026, at Deshong Park in Stone Mountain, Georgia (2859 N Deshong Rd). The event brings the community together to raise awareness and support literacy initiatives in Georgia.
The event highlights local literacy challenges: approximately 62% of Georgia third graders are not reading proficiently, students who are not reading on grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, and nearly 1 million adults in Georgia have low literacy skills. The Run for Reading aims to help change that trajectory by supporting programs that put books in children’s hands and strengthen reading resources.
Race options include a 5K Run/Walk of 3.1 Miles and a Kids Run for children 15 and under. Registration opens March 4, 2026; the 5K registration closes April 15, 2026 with a fee of $40, and Kids Run registration remains open through May 16, 2026 with a fee of $35. The accompanying Spring Festival is free; race participants receive free entry to the festival.
The course consists of two loops around Deshong Park. After the race, the Spring Festival will feature food, adult and kids activities, a health fair, and vendors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
