Run for Cake
Run for Cake is a lap-based running event at Ferry Meadows country park in Peterborough. The event is offered in 4 or 6 hour formats and lets participants complete as many laps as they can within the time allowed. One lap measures 5.3 km, which also serves as a 5k distance.
The course is a multi-terrain loop on traffic free park paths that runs past lakes and the river. About 82% of the lap is sealed or tarmac path and about 18% is softer trail or grass. The loop is largely flat with 17 metres of climb and elevation ranging roughly from 3 to 15 metres. A GPX file for the route is available from the course information.
Race HQ and registration are based at the Lakeside Centre on the watersports side of the park, with the base camp located at the start and lap point. There is an aid station at the base camp on every lap. Parking at the park is chargeable. The organiser provides a bespoke event medal unless a general finisher medal option is selected.
Standard lap counts for target distances are provided, with options to alter laps on the day:
- 5 kilometres is one lap
- Heavy half marathon standard is five laps with possible changes
- Ultra marathon standard is nine laps with possible increases up to twelve
The event is cupless, so participants must bring their own bottles or cups. Road trainers are suggested but trail shoes may be useful depending on recent weather. Virtual entry is offered via the organiser's online shop. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
