Event Details
The Run for BCAWS 5K is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Alcoa, Tennessee. It is a two-part event focused on supporting the Blount County Animal Wellness Society (BCAWS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The event offers two distinct activities:
- Humans only 5K: A running race for human participants only.
- Dogs Gone Wild Mile: A one-mile walk/run event that is pet-friendly.
Course and Location
The 5K course starts and ends at the Alcoa Public Works & Engineering Building, near the Springbrook Pool and Alcoa Elementary School at 715 Universal Drive. It is described as an out-and-back route using local roads and the Alcoa/Maryville Greenway system. The one-mile event follows similar roads and pathways and is designed not to interfere with the 5K. Parking is available at the listed address.
Activities and Features
For the 5K, awards will be given to all human runners, with age group awards in 10-year increments. Dogs are not allowed in the 5K. Participants in the Dogs Gone Wild Mile receive a treat at the finish line. After the main events, a "Field of Fun" with obstacle courses and toys is planned for dogs. A giveaway contest for dog awards (like Cutest or Smallest Dog) will also be held. Vendors and sponsors will be present.
Practical Information
An aid/water station stocked with water will be available at the 5K turnaround point. Restrooms will be available at the venue but not on the course. Event proceeds benefit BCAWS, which helps domestic pets stay with their owners by providing veterinary bills and other necessities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
