Event overview
The Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K takes place on Saturday, January 17, 2026. This is the 47th annual running of the event, traditionally held on the third Saturday of January and held annually since 1979. The race is presented by the Greenville Track Club and sponsored by the Greenville Journal. The event is a GTC Corporate Shield event and part of the GTC Running series, sponsored by Incite Consulting Group. The listed place is 300 S. Main St., Greenville, SC 29601.
Course, logistics and awards
The certified course starts in front of the Peace Center and follows a route that includes W. Broad St, W. Washington St, Trescott St, Meadow St, the E.B. Holloway Trail, Wellborn St, a concrete path to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, a foot bridge, Reedy View Dr, River St, and finishes near the Falls Park Bridge. The 2026 route is the same as 2024 and was slightly modified in 2025 because of hurricane damage to a bridge at the west edge of Unity Park. Chip timing mats are used at the start and finish.
Packet pickup is Friday, January 16, noon to 6:00 pm at Fleet Feet Greenville (635 Augusta St) and Saturday, January 17, 6:45 to 7:45 am at the start area, One City Plaza (103 N Main St). Parking garages listed include One City Plaza Garage, Richardson Street Garage, and West Washington Street Deck. Awards use chip times; top three male and female overall, masters (40+), grandmasters (50+), senior grandmasters (60+), multiple age groups, and Corporate Shield awards are planned. There are no refunds, deferrals, or transfers; race fee insurance is offered during registration. Dogs are not allowed; strollers should start near the back for safety.
