The event grew from a local tradition of sharing homemade cinnamon rolls and remembering a university student who died while running. An online page organized remote participation in 2024, recording participation from multiple states and countries and collective mileage recorded by participants.
Auld & White Constructors serves as the title sponsor and helped launch the inaugural 5K with the family who started the remembrance activities. The ACE Mentor Program of Northeast Florida is associated with the event; the program connects high school students with professionals in architecture, engineering, and construction and is part of a national network.
Race features listed by the organizer include moisture wicking shirts for participants, medals for finishers, a flat course, chip timing with live results, and overall and age group awards. Cinnamon rolls, coffee, and other refreshments are provided to finishers after the event.
