Rumpus in Bumpass Triathlon
Rumpus in Bumpass is a multisport event held at Pleasants Landing Marina on Lake Anna in Bumpass, VA. The event features both sprint and Olympic triathlon distances and aquabike options. The swim takes place in a southeast section of the lake where water temperatures are typically warmer than other areas; the swim course is supported, includes two right turns and sighting buoys every 75 meters, and is spectator friendly around the peninsula.
Distances include:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5K swim, 24 mile bike, 10K run
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 m swim, 12.2 mile bike, 5K run
The Olympic bike is a two-loop, rolling course on paved roads with mostly right turns. The sprint bike is a single-loop, rolling route on low-traffic pavement with a few short climbs. During the cycling portion the marina entrance road is closed to normal traffic except for emergency vehicles; late arrivals are directed to off-site parking about a quarter mile away. Run courses are paved and lightly rolling, with short sections of woods and gravel near transition; the Olympic run uses a two-loop out-and-back format while the sprint is a single out-and-back.
Race categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, and Relay Teams; categories are scored three deep. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Packet pickup requires each participant to collect their own materials and present photo identification. Swag includes a tri-blend race shirt, custom race socks, and a custom finisher medal.
