The Event
The BCU Rumble in the Jungle is a trail running event held in Bindarri National Park near Coffs Harbour. It features several distances:
- 100 km
- 50 km
- 30 km
- 21 km
- 8 km
- 1 km (a kids and family run)
The event hub is at the Eastern Dorrigo Community Hall in Ulong, New South Wales. There is an optional bus service available from Coffs Harbour for runners of the 30km, 21km, and 8km distances.
Camping is available on-site for a fee from the afternoon before the event. Facilities include flush toilets, a kitchen, and a BBQ. There are no hot showers.
The event is a cupless event, meaning runners must bring their own reusable cup or soft flask. A finish line drop bag service is provided for all distances.
Distances and Courses
All courses explore trails within Bindarri National Park, featuring forest roads, single tracks, and lookouts. The longer distances pass waterfalls and scenic lookouts.
The event has specific minimum age requirements: 18 years for the 100km and 50km distances, 16 years for the 30km, 14 years for the 21km, and no minimum for the 8km (though runners under 10 must be accompanied by an adult).
Entry fees apply for the main distances, while the 1km kids run is free.
Runner Requirements
A detailed list of mandatory gear must be carried, which varies by distance. For all distances except the 1km, this includes a mobile phone with specific safety apps installed. Longer distances require items like a head torch, waterproof jacket, and space blanket. Random gear checks are conducted.
For the 100km Ultra, runners must have completed a qualifying run of at least 42km with significant elevation gain within a specified period.
Support crews and spectators are generally not permitted on the courses within Bindarri National Park for safety reasons, with specific exceptions only for certain aid stations on the 100km and 50km routes. Spectators are welcome at the start/finish area.
Event Details
Bib collection and mandatory gear checks take place the afternoon before and on the morning of the event.
Aid stations are provided on the courses, offering water, soft drinks, and snacks. Some aid stations for the longer distances also offer hot food like soup and noodles.
The event follows the ITRA Green Charter to minimize environmental impact. Runners are asked to stay on tracks, not litter, and not disturb wildlife. An old shoe recycling program is available.
The event organizer, Coffs Trail Runners, is endorsed by SheRunnerAustralia, indicating initiatives for an equitable event. This includes equal prize money, provision of menstrual products at aid stations, and a pregnancy refund policy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
