Coffs Backyard Ultra : Coffs Harbour, NSW
Coffs Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing endurance event held from the Exhibition Pavilion at Coffs Harbour Showground and run along the Coffs Creek Walkway. Participants complete a repeated 6.706 km "yard" each hour on the same marked loop until a single runner remains. The course combines an 800 m showground loop with a 5.906 km out-and-back along the Coffs Creek Walkway, with a seat marking the turnaround. Surface breakdown per yard is mainly shaded gravel, with boardwalk and bitumen sections; total ascent and descent per yard are about 20 metres.
The event provides an aid station next to the corral with beverages, snacks and basic hot food, and an unmanned cupless water point with toilets at the Hogbin Drive underpass. Facilities at the Exhibition Pavilion include a large undercover hub, kitchen access, charging stations, a quiet sleeping room and multiple toilet and shower blocks. Camping is available on-site for tents and swags; larger vehicles may be restricted.
Event rules follow the Backyard Ultra format: support crew may assist only after each yard, and no on-course assistance is allowed during a yard. Mandatory gear requirements include a race bib, a cup or flask and lighting and mobile devices for night yards. Prizes include $1,000 cash to both the last male and last female remaining and special awards for milestone distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
