Event overview

Coffs Backyard Ultra is a donation-based endurance event held at the Coffs Harbour Showground and along the Coffs Creek Walkway on 6 June 2026. The format requires runners to complete a repeated loop of 6.706 km - one "yard" every hour - and continue until only one runner remains. The 2026 event is sold out and maintains a free waitlist. Cash prizes of $1,000 are offered to both the last male and the last female left standing, sponsored by The Battery Boys.

Course and timing

Each yard uses the same loop: an 800 m wide showground circuit followed by a 5.906 km out-and-back on the Coffs Creek Walkway. The course surface is mostly shaded gravel, with a published breakdown of 82% gravel path, 10% boardwalk and 8% bitumen. Total ascent and descent per yard are both listed as 20 metres. Runners must keep to a single file when running east of the Hogbin Drive underpass (between 3.2 km and 4.1 km). Spectators and support crew are allowed on the showground loop but not on the Coffs Creek Walkway.

Facilities, logistics and rules

The event hub is the Exhibition Pavilion with a large undercover area for gear, multiple toilets, hot showers, phone charging stations and a race clock in the corral. Tracking is manual: reusable bibs and a tally-board sticker system record completed yards. The event is cupless; runners must bring a cup or flask. Mobile phones and a headtorch or other torch are mandatory during night hours. Random gear checks and official Backyard Ultra rules apply.

Safety, aid and camping

A professional first aid provider will be on-site for the duration. The main aid station beside the corral supplies water, Trail Brew, soft drinks, snacks and some hot food from late afternoon. An unmanned cupless water point and toilets are located under the Hogbin Drive bridge. Free camping is available on the day before and during the event, with two designated camping/parking areas near the corral and main showground arena. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
