Event overview

Coffs Backyard Ultra is a donation-based backyard ultra held at the Coffs Harbour Showground on Saturday 6 June 2026, with optional pre-event activities the day before. The format requires runners to complete a 6.706 km "yard" every hour, repeating the same course until only one runner remains. The 2026 event is listed as sold out with 821 participants.

Course

  • 6.706 km yard distance
  • 800 m wide showground loop within the showground
  • 5.906 km Coffs Creek Walkway out-and-back

The course surface is mainly shaded gravel paths (82%), with boardwalks (10%) and bitumen (8%). Total ascent and descent per yard are each 20 metres. Spectators and support crew may provide encouragement inside the showground loop but are not allowed on the Coffs Creek Walkway.

Facilities, safety and logistics

The event hub is at the Exhibition Pavilion and offers a large undercover gear area, multiple toilet blocks, hot showers, kitchen facilities, phone charging stations, and on-site first aid. Free camping is available at the showground from the day before the race in two designated areas. An unmanned, cupless water point and toilets are located under the Hogbin Drive underpass on the course.

Rules, tracking and prizes

Bibs are reusable and tracking is manual via tally boards and stickers at the corral. Mobile phones and a headtorch are mandatory during night yards; runners must carry required gear throughout each yard. The last male and the last female standing each receive a $1,000 cash prize. Completing 15 yards earns a special engraved event glass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
