Event Format
The Coffs Backyard Ultra is an endurance event following the backyard ultra format. Participants must complete a 6.706 km loop, called a "yard", every hour. This repeats until only one runner remains. The event is donation-based.
Course and Location
The course is a fixed loop starting and finishing at the Exhibition Pavilion in the Coffs Harbour Showground, New South Wales. It begins with an 800-meter loop within the showground before joining the Coffs Creek Walkway. The course surface is 82% shaded gravel path, 10% boardwalks, and 8% bitumen. Each yard has approximately 20 meters of ascent and descent.
Facilities and Services
Free camping is available on-site from the day before the event. The venue provides a large undercover area for gear, multiple toilet blocks, a kitchen, charging stations, and phone reception. Hot showers are available. A main aid station offers water, soft drinks, snacks, and later hot food. An unmanned water point is located on the course.
Rules and Requirements
Official Backyard Ultra rules apply. Runners must be in the starting corral at the beginning of each hour. Mandatory gear includes a race bib, a mobile phone (required during night yards), a headtorch or handheld torch (required during night yards), and a personal cup or flask for drinks. Random gear checks are conducted.
Prizes and Recognition
A $1,000 cash prize is awarded to both the last female and last male runner standing. All participants who do not finish receive an engraved wooden spoon. Runners who complete 15 yards (100.59 km) or more receive a special engraved event glass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
