The event features multiple distances on marked trails and a separate kids dash loop around Wingfield Park.

Race services and features include chip timing, commemorative finisher medals (engraved granite coaster style), custom event shirts and race bibs, complimentary professional race photos, age-group award charms, and carved Ruidoso bear awards for top three overall finishers. The event is a cupless race with water filling stations at Wingfield Park and refill stations located on the courses for the longer distances; the 4-mile course has no on-course water. Post-race amenities have included showers at the Ruidoso Athletic Club and a post-race gathering with local brewery participation and participant discounts.
Since 2014 the Grindstone series has been supported by the Village of Ruidoso, Lincoln County, and the US Forest Service. Proceeds benefit the All-Season Adaptive Sports program, which supports recreation and snow sports for people with disabilities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
