Trail Running in Ruidoso
The Ruidoso Grindstone Trail Runs take place in Wingfield Park, located in downtown Ruidoso, New Mexico. The event marks its 12th annual edition in 2026, offering participants various trail distances at an altitude of 6,900 feet. The courses utilize the local trail systems supported by the Village of Ruidoso and the US Forest Service. Proceeds from the event support the All-Season Adaptive Sports program, which provides recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The event consists of several distance options:
- 13.8 miles (Half Marathon Heavy) featuring hills and technical segments.
- 8.5 miles consisting of varied slopes and terrain.
- 4 miles composed of 50% paved surfaces and 50% trails.
- Kid's Dash consisting of one loop around Wingfield Park.
This is a cupless event, and participants must carry their own hydration containers. Refill stations are positioned at Wingfield Park and at specific mile markers on the longer courses. All races start and finish at Wingfield Park. The courses are marked with directional signs and colored tape at intersections.
Participants receive a custom shirt, a race bib, and a commemorative engraved granite stone coaster finisher's medal. Professional race photography is available, and an after-party is held at a local brewery. Post-race showers are available for participants at the Ruidoso Athletic Club. For safety reasons, pets, strollers, and e-bikes are not permitted on the trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
