About the race

The Capitan Mountain 34 Hour is an endurance running event in Capitan, New Mexico on April 16–17, 2027, organized by Yeti Trail Runners. The event program includes a multi-distance 34-hour challenge plus separate 12-hour and 6-hour races.

Distances and event options include:

  • 100 miles
  • 80 miles
  • Other distances from 25K and up
  • Hotfoot Teddy 12-hour
  • Rabbit 6-hour

The course uses soft, runnable loops of about four miles with a central aid station and headquarters. The format is crew-optional. Camping is available at the start/finish area on a first-come, first-served basis under BLM rules, and some RV water hookups are listed. A food truck is included with registration and will provide lunch, dinner and overnight snacks for 34-hour participants. Pacers are permitted during designated overnight hours. Packet pickup is located at Rob Jaggar Campground, the start/finish site.

Race timing is provided by Zen Arcade Timing with chip timing, real-time tracking, live lap counting and split displays. The event site is associated with the history of Smokey Bear: a burned black bear cub named Hotfoot was found in Lincoln National Forest in 1950, later became Smokey Bear, and was returned to Capitan after years at the National Zoo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
