Capitan Mountain 34 Hour

Capitan Mountain 34 Hour is an organized endurance event in Capitan, New Mexico, run by Yeti Trail Runners. The main format is a 34-hour event held on a looped mountain course consisting of soft, runnable 4-mile loops with a central aid station and headquarters. The course is crew-optional.

Timing is provided by Zen Arcade Timing with chip timing, real-time tracking, live lap counting, and split displays. Pacers are allowed during the overnight period. A food truck is included with registration and serves lunch, dinner, and midnight snacks for 34-hour participants. Camping is available at the start/finish area on a first-come, first-served basis under BLM rules; some RV water hookups are available. Packet pickup takes place the day before the event.

The event includes separate shorter-time options in addition to the main 34-hour challenge. All other distances from 25K upward are counted for finishes and receive finisher medals; specific awards include buckles for certain longer distances.

The event references the local history of Smokey Bear and the Hotfoot story as part of the location's heritage. Registration opens on October 25, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
