Course and Format
The Capitan Mountain 34 Hour Race takes place on a soft, runnable 4-mile loop near Capitan Mountain in New Mexico. Aid and race headquarters are located at the start/finish of this loop. Pacers are allowed from midnight to 6am. The course is run clockwise.
Awards and Timing
Awards are given based on distance achieved. A special buckle is awarded for a sub-24-hour finish, in conjunction with the standard finisher's buckle. The event has a no DNF (Did Not Finish) policy; times are recorded at 25K and beyond. The race is timed professionally by Zen Arcade Timing.
Aid and Services
The aid station is fully stocked with traditional ultra snacks, electrolytes, and soda. Hot food, including vegetarian options, as well as tea and instant coffee, are available at night. A food truck offers lunch and dinner for registered runners.
Mandatory Equipment and Packet Pickup
This is a cupless event. Runners are required to bring a reusable cup for drinks and a foam or collapsible camp-style cup for hot liquids. Bib and packet pickup is at Rob Jaggers Campground the day before the race.
Accommodation and Location
Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis at Rob Jaggers Campground, located near the start/finish. The event is held on public land. Several hotel options are listed in nearby towns like Ruidoso.
Policies
The organizers have a diversity and inclusion policy, stating the race is for everyone. Entrance for transgender athletes is based on self-declared gender. Non-binary athletes can contact the organizers after registration to update their records. There is a no-refund, no-deferral, and no-transfer policy for registrations.
