Capitan Mountain 34 Hour - Capitan, New Mexico
Capitan Mountain 34 Hour is an endurance event organized by Yeti Trail Runners in Capitan, New Mexico. The main format is a timed multi-hour race that uses soft, runnable four mile loops with a central aid station and headquarters. The course is crew-optional.
Distances and timed races include:
- 100 miles with a buckle
- 80 miles with a special Smokey birthday buckle
- Other distances from 25K upward
- Hotfoot Teddy 12 hour event
- Rabbit 6 hour event
Timing is provided by Zen Arcade Timing, which supplies chip timing, live lap counting, splits, and real-time tracking. Registered participants are offered food truck service covering lunch and dinner; midnight snacks are available for 34 hour entrants. Camping is available at the start/finish area under BLM rules, with some RV water hookups on site. Packet pickup takes place at Rob Jaggar Campground at the event location.
The event notes a local historical connection to Smokey Bear and Hotfoot, a bear cub found burned in 1950 and later associated with Capitan.
