Hyannis 2 Triathlon
The Hyannis 2 Triathlon is a multi-distance, USAT sanctioned event held at Craigville Beach in Centerville, Massachusetts. Sprint and Olympic distances start and finish on sandy beach with a waist-deep, rectangular swim course in Nantucket Sound. Swim conditions have ranged from glass-calm to a moderate chop; water temperatures are noted as mid-70s for the Sprint and upper 60s to low 70s for the Olympic swim.
The bike routes follow rolling hills through Centerville and the villages of Osterville and Wianno, returning along a beachside road to Craigville Beach. The Sprint bike is a single loop with no duplicated road segments. The Sprint run begins with a short flat section, moves into a gradual climb and rolling grades, and finishes with a gentle downhill. A staffed water stop is located near the midpoint of the Sprint run. The Olympic swim and bike involve additional loops extending the Sprint course; athletes complete continuous swim loops in the Olympic swim.
Additional race formats listed include relay teams, aquabike, duathlon, and an aquathlon, plus a virtual category called Tri It Your Way. The virtual option allows alternative swim or activity choices, requires recording each activity, and runs over a specified multi-day window.
This event is USA Triathlon sanctioned; participants must have annual or one-day USAT membership. One-day insurance fees are specified by distance and category. The event is a Massachusetts state championship ranking point race; eligibility requires participation in multiple qualifying races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
