Event Details
The Ruck for the Fallen is a running event held in Quitman, Texas. It takes place at Governor Jim Hogg Park on South Main Street.
Event Format and Distances
The event offers several race options. Participants can choose between standard running/walking events and "ruck" events, which require carrying a weighted pack.
The available distances are:
- Non-Ruck 1 Mile
- Non-Ruck 5K
- Non-Ruck 10K
- 5K Ruck (with a required 35 lbs load)
- 10K Ruck (with a required 35 lbs load)
All event registration fees are listed as $50. Registration opens on March 5, 2026.
Awards and Participation Rules
Only participants in the ruck events are eligible for podium awards. Awards are given for the fastest times in several categories, including individual male and female divisions for both the 5K and 10K ruck distances. There are also team awards for "Battle Buddy" (two-person teams) and "Fire Team" (four-person teams) categories, where team members must start and finish close together.
For the ruck events, participants must carry a pack weighing at least 35 lbs. This weight will be verified by event staff before the start and immediately after finishing. Participants are responsible for providing their own weighted pack, as the event does not supply additional weight.
Beneficiaries and Purpose
The event honors service members who have lost their lives defending the United States. The majority of proceeds (99%) from the event will be donated to the Boot Campaign, a non-profit organization supporting veterans and military families. A small portion (1%) of the proceeds will go to the Quitman Lake Country Charitable Foundation, which supports community projects in the local area.
