Event Overview
The Professional Fire Fighters of Chesapeake, IAFF Local 2449, host the 3rd Annual RUCK Cancer Walk/Run at Bells Mill Park. This event takes place alongside the 12th Annual Mustache March Madness and serves as a fundraiser to support local firefighter families affected by cancer. The course is open to both runners and walkers.
Distances and Participation
Participants can choose between two distance options:
- 5 km (Short RUCK)
- 10 km (Long RUCK)
While the event functions as a traditional ruck where participants are encouraged to wear a ruck sack or a 35-pound weighted vest, these are not required to participate. For those who do not have their own equipment, 35 CFD SCBA units are available for reservation to use during the walk or run. Participants may also choose to walk the course without any weighted gear.
Prizes and Amenities
Prizes are awarded for the 10 km distance. To be eligible for the 1st place overall male or female prize, participants must wear an SCBA, a 35-pound weighted vest, or a 35-pound ruck sack. There is also a specific award category for the fastest male and female finishers in the 10 km event specifically wearing a 35-pound ruck sack.
The entry fee includes a custom race T-shirt for those who register by the specified deadline and access to a post-race cookout provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chesapeake. Packet pickup is held on the morning of the event at the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
